A Taismo Valentine

It was a warm day in mobius, comparing it was February and it was usually negative ten degrees Celsius. It was about five degrees warmer today and a orange twin-tailed fox could be seen walking alone on a deserted road towards Vanilla's mansion whilst wearing a suit, an orange MP3 looking much like an Ipod was held in his hand.

"Annoying Ipod wannabe!" I growled under my breath as I flipped through the songs by clicking rapidly. I clicked back a few and pressed play. Sighing as the first few bars played of one of the Linkin Park songs I  recently downloaded, I began to sing "My insides all turned to ash, so slow. And blew away as I collapsed, so cold. A black wind took them away, from sight. And now the darkness over day, that night…" I stopped to catch my breath as a single tear slid down my cheek. 'Why am I going to this party… when I just want to sleep through today?' Sighing for the umpteenth time today I recalled what happened to get me stuck in this mess.

"Tails you gotta come out of your room now!" a frustrated voice yelled as someone banged on my door.
"No!" I had yelled back at Sonic through the door.
"Tails, Please come out for Mr. Sonic! Miss Amy and I are very worried about you!" A young girl exclaimed sounding on the verge of tears, but I didn't care.
"Humph, Let the boy feel sorry for himself. It's the natural healing process."
"I am not feeling sorry for myself!" I screeched back through my tears "She didn't do anything to deserve being killed and I, I… killed her!"
"Tails, If you won't come out now, at least come to the party at Vanilla's tonight!" An older female bargained, and I could hear whispers of "good idea Amy!" and "Wish I thought of that…"
"Will it get you to leave me alone?" I sullenly replied.
"Yes." Came the deep, convinced voice of Rouge. I thought about it for just a minute before speaking the word that would later ensure my attendance.
"… Fine."

'That's what…' I place a hand to my face in an effort of hiding it in my embarrassment of getting tricked out of my room before continuing my song. "And the ground below grew colder, As they put you down inside. But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing… So now you're gone, and I was wrong.
I never knew what it was like, to be alone…" I took a deep breath as I started the final part of the song, echoing why today was killing me, what today was. "On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day."

I hummed most of that part as I started up Vanilla's large driveway and as I approached the door I sang the last lines sang by the other members of the band "I used to be my own protection, but not now. Cause my mind has lost direction, somehow." I took a deep breath to prepare myself for the night and as I was lifting my hand to knock someone opened the door and ran into me. As he stood up and started to apologize I recognised him as a familiar hot-headed echidna.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to- Tails? Is that you? Sheesh, no one has seen you since the met-mmph!" Rouge had walked up behind him and covered his mouth with her hand.
"You Knuckle-head! Don't bring that up, we don't want him depressed again!" I started to walk away towards the ballroom as I heard him yank off her hand just to say,
"What?".

It has been about an hour since then and I've had some refreshments and attempted to have a good time, needless to say I failed at that. As I start to head towards the door Sonic appears in my way and I quickly have to stop.
"You can't leave just yet buddy!" He exclaims stretching out his hands. "There's a surprise out back for you!" He winks before speeding off.
"Sonic I j- never mind…" I turn around and wander through the kitchen wondering what my surprise could be, I walk outside and onto the lawn. After looking around I sigh in defeat and to my amazement I hear a giggle from behind me.

"Tails?" The owner of the giggle questions me.
"Yes?" I reply. With my heart racing a mile a minute and my breathing becoming shallow, I turn around just to stop and nearly pass out.

In front of my eyes was what- no, who, I considered to be the most beautiful girl in the world. The one I killed, the reason I had wished to no longer live just to be with, the reason why I hated the day for love, my Cosmo.
"Sonic said earlier 'Your Tails' surprise.' what did he mean?" She inquires. Right away I grab her hand and as she let's out a gasp in shock I say something I know is cliché, but I don't really care at the moment.
"I'm not hallucinating!" She turns her head sideways and I give her a hug "I thought you, you were dead." I stop and calm down, looking to the porch just in time for Sonic to give me a thumbs up and run off.

Not long after Angel by Shaggy comes through the speakers and I nervously try to ask Cosmo to dance.
"C-Cosmo?" She turns around to look at me as  I stutter out the question "W-would you li-like to…" I take a deep breath and finish quietly "… dance?"
"Yes, I'd like that so very much Tails!" She pulls me close and as we dance all I catch is one line of the song, it is what I turn to for reassurance near her, it what keeps my spirit's up: But the feeling that I have for you is so strong, Been together so long, and this could never be wrong.
